Head Coach Alex Gheorghe grew up in Romania where he played on the National team at all age levels. Alex began his career as a goalkeeper and subsequently transitioned to midfield. He continues to hone his skills, playing at the highest level in the Northeast Region as Captain of the Rye Men's Team in the NEFHA league. He also competes with top-tier international players in events such as the California Cup and Big Apple International Indoor Championship.

 

Alex began his coaching career at a young age, volunteering to coach youth players in Romania while still playing himself. He earned recognition from the FIH for his effort as a youth coach while in Romania. He has dedicated his time to understanding the finer aspects of the game, from the smallest technical detail to the broader strategies of game play.

 

Coach Alex brings unmatched passion and love of the game that he imparts to his players and teammates. He is devoted to developing his players to be the best that they can be.

COACH ABDEL EL KETTANI

Italian Men's National Team Member

(U16, U18 & U21)

 

Abdel grew up in Italy, playing for the Cus Torino Hockey Club advancing to the 1st Division at age 15 where his team won 3 division titles.  A striker and midfielder, he continued his field hockey career in France where he played for the Paris Jean Boin team for 2 years in the 1st Division. In 2014 Abdel returned home to Turin, Italy where his team won the league championship. Coach Abdel has a long history of coaching and developing youth players and was responsible for coaching U12s at the young age of 15.  Abdel has also worked full time in schools, working with children from 6 to 17 years of age.  In the US, Abdel coaches club and he competes in the NEFHA league for Rye FHC

 

 

 

Coach Kelly Marks

USA Women’s U21 National Team Member &

Division I - University of Albany Player

 

Kelly began her field hockey career playing for elite club powerhouse, X-Calibur, where her team won their pools at both the National Field Hockey Festival and National Indoor Tournament.  She went on to play Division I at Old Dominion University where her team finished in the NCAA final four in 2011.  Transferring to Division I University of Albany, she was co-captain and led her team to the NCAA final four in 2014.  In 2011, Kelly was selected to the US Women’s U21 National Team.

Kelly has coached in numerous camps and clinics for her university programs and has strong experience coaching youth players.

Leticia Freaney

Pace University Assitant Coach

Captain Puerto Rico National Team

 

Leticia Freaney enters her second year as Assistant Coach with the Pace Field Hockey program.
Freaney has had a phenomenal field hockey career. Playing at Columbia University all four years, Freaney earned First-Team All Ivy League honors in 2011 during her senior season. She then went on to play for the Puerto Rican Women's National Field Hockey Team. Through 2011-2014 Freaney won gold medals, adding two Athlete of the year awards during her 2012 and 2014 campaigns. Freaney played her last season with the National Team in 2015 where she finished as the second leading goal  scorer of the Panam Challege in Peru.

 

Coach Brendan Heller 

  Strength & Conditioning 

Brendan Heller is a 2012 Graduate from Bryant University in Smithfield, Rhode Island with a degree in Communication and is pursuing a Master's Degree in Sports Management. He was a four year Division I Swimmer and named team captain as a senior. He was also a member of the Army ROTC Program at Bryant, and is still actively serving as a First Lieutenant in the Rhode Island Army National Guard.

Brendan is a successful swim coach, having worked as an assistant at Pace University, both Greenwich and Rye YMCA, and is currently the Head Swim Coach at Sacred Heart Greenwich, Iona Prep, and Davenport Beach Club. He still competes in swimming but prefers triathlons, having completed two Ironman distance triathlons since finishing college. 

 

Brendan's background as a swimmer, as an Officer in the U.S. Army, and through his experiences in triathlon make him a valuable asset to AGH in Strength and Conditioning. Preparing AGH players to play at the most elite level will require consistent and healthy training both in field hockey and at getting faster and stronger. Brendan plans to work with our teams twice a week to work towards the elite level throughout the winter and spring on an individual basis as often as requested.
